What Are Perio Protect Trays?
This treatment option is a comprehensive approach to treating gum disease that uses special medicated mouth guards to heal your gums of infection. Perio Protect Trays contain a powerful sealing system that fights the harmful bacteria damaging your gums.
Patients with gum disease wear the Perio Protect Trays at home for just a few minutes each day. Before placing the mouth guard in your mouth, you first apply the special medication to it. Once in place, Perio Protect Trays reach deep down into your gum line, allowing the medication to penetrate into the pockets of your gums where infection and bacteria lie.
This powerful medication does what toothpaste and mouthwash cannot do, resulting in healthier gums and better overall oral health and hygiene.
Getting Started
Our dentists will begin by examining your gums and teeth. They will then make special measurements of your mouth, followed by a mold of your mouth. These are then sent to a laboratory, where a technician will create a custom-made Perio Protect Tray specifically for use in your mouth.
When the Perio Protect Tray is ready, it will be sent to us, and we will have you come in to check the fitting. Our team will help you use it so you can be sure to follow the proper instructions at home.
Everyone’s treatment is different based on their individual needs. Most patients will start out using their Perio Protect Tray between two and three times a day. When wearing your Tray, you will need to keep it in your mouth for around 10 to 15 minutes with each use. Soon, your infection will be under control, and you can reduce the amount of time the tray needs to be worn.
